Psychological Evaluations
Psychological assessments are essential tools that help unravel the complexities of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral issues. At the core of Dr. Gering's practice, these evaluations provide in-depth insights that guide both diagnosis and treatment planning. The testing day is structured to be engaging yet thorough, utilizing a suite of gold-standard testing measures to ensure comprehensive and accurate results.
While evaluations are primarily focused on the diagnosis of ADHD and ASD, each assessment is designed to be comprehensive, using Dr. Gering’s expertise to select and administer the appropriate tools to meet the unique needs of each individual. Every testing session is designed to make children feel comfortable and secure, thereby ensuring that the results reflect a complete depiction of their abilities and challenges.
For ADHD evaluations, Dr. Gering sees children and adolescents ages 5-18.
For Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) evaluations, Dr. Gering sees a broader range of ages, from 18 months to 18 years
For all other primary concerns (examples include: Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, PTSD, Schizophrenia, Conduct Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), contact Dr. Gering’s office directly to ensure an evaluation is right for you and your family.

Getting Started
-
All children have times when they struggle with big feelings, keeping up with schoolwork, making friendships, or disruptive behaviors. However, if your child is having difficulty with social interactions, emotion regulation, or behavioral difficulties on more days than not, it may be time to seek an appointment for extra help and guidance.

Dr. Gering now partners with Reimbursify, an online company that will check your specific insurance plan’s out-of-network benefits. See the FAQ page for information on what this process looks like and how you may be reimbursed by your insurance provider for up to 50% - 80% of the overall cost of services using a Superbill provided by Dr. Gering through Reimbursify

Dr. Gering’s evaluations are completed over four appointments:
1) Anyone who is interested in an assessment or therapy must first complete a 10-minute “screener” appointment (free of charge) to ensure that an evaluation or therapy is right for you.
2) If we decide to schedule an assessment, a comprehensive 60 - 90 minute diagnostic interview is completed either in Dr. Gering’s office or via telehealth to gain all necessary background information on presenting problems and concerns.
3) After the interview is completed, a testing day is then scheduled for the following week. Testing includes one-on-one time with Dr. Gering, parent-report measures, self-report measures (if the child is old enough), questionnaires for teachers, and a full battery of age-appropriate psychological measures and assessments. Testing typically takes at least half of a day to complete, but to ensure the highest possible quality of care, Dr. Gering schedules only one patient per day. When you complete an assessment with Dr. Gering, you are the only person he sees for the day. This ensures that there will be enough time to discuss, explore, and evaluate any concern you have.
4) Approximately 2-3 weeks after testing is completed, a 90-minute feedback session is completed (in-person or via telehealth, whatever is easiest for all). At this time, you will be provided with an explanation of all testing results, diagnosis, recommendations, and the comprehensive evaluation report. -
While testing sessions will be held primarily between the child and Dr. Gering, some younger children will complete testing with their parent in the room (which will be discussed before testing begins). With this in mind, parents are expected to remain onsite for the duration of their child’s appointment unless specifically discussed.
